Wigs And Hair Extensions Professional Care Secrets For Beginners

Step 1 Prepare Wigs Or Extensions To WashWigs And Hair Extensions Care Step By Step Professional Secrets

Wigs And Hair Extensions Tips

These wigs and hair extensions care secrets are step by step for hair wigs.

When looking at all the before and after hair loss  pictures out there it can be a bit frustrating If your hair did not become like your desired look and style. I completely understand.

For some, wigs might be anywhere from a first resort to a last resort when dealing with women's hair loss.

But don't worry wigs can be easy to use if you are are suffering from traction alopecia because using hair extensions may further your hair loss. Wigs are safe to use for an array of hair loss causes for your female pattern hair loss

When getting started with these steps it's best to start by using a dry wig. Then use a wide tooth comb to gently rake out any tangles starting from the bottom of the hair working your way up towards the top or roots of the hair. Use small sections of hair when doing so to avoid less breakage on the human hair wig.

Quick Tip: If there are any hair knots that are too strong for your wide tooth comb to handle, it may be best to undo them with your fingers gently and efficiently.

Step 2 Prepare Cleaning StationWigs And Hair Extensions Care Step By Step Professional Secrets

Prior to washing your human hair wig, please make sure to clean your sink well and thoroughly. Make sure to rinse any and all cleaning chemicals from the sink, so that there is absolutely no residue on the sink. Then fill up your sink with slightly warm water that is not hot and plug up the sink so the water stays inside. Please note you are not about to wash your dishes you are going to wash a human hair wig. This step on the water temperature may seem non important but in actuality the temperature is very important in keeping a silky smooth wig without obtaining frizz.

It does not matter weather your human hair wig is curly, straight or wavy because this applies to all. Please make sure the water temperature is about lukewarm temperature but if anything more on the warm side than on the cool side.

Then before the water cools down too much simply dunk your wig into the water a few times. Then gently squeeze the excess water with your free hand allowing the water to fall into the sink. Leave the sink alone as you set aside your wig onto a fluffy dry towel.

Then go back to your sink with the water in it and add your favorite wig shampoo such as Revlon wig shampoo and conditioner instead of your hair loss shampoo to the lukewarm sink water. Make sure to swish the water around with your hand in order to create suds in your slightly warm water.

Step 3 Gently WashWigs And Hair Extensions Care Step By Step Professional Secrets

Now gently dunk your wig inside your sink that is filled with water and gently squeeze the hair a few times in order to get the suds thoroughly cleansing the human hair wig.

Do this a few times until you feel the suds have removed the dirt, debris and possible hair product residue.

Quick tip human hair wig don'ts:

  • Don't pull the wig's hair
  • Don't rub the wig's hair harshly or twist the hair roughly
  • Don't stretch the wig netting or strands

Step 4 Rinse With Luke-Warm WaterWigs And Hair Extensions Care Step By Step Professional Secrets

Now unplug the sinks water and please rise out the sink thoroughly so that all sudsy water is gone. Now to rinse the wig simply run the faucet's lukewarm water over the wig while squeezing the wig simultaneously until the water runs clear and no suds appear on the human hair wig.

Quick wig tip: For this step try to make sure to use lukewarm more on the cool side. Using cool water to rinse will help close the hair cuticles and make your wigs appear more silky and less frizzy with a naturally look to it.

Step 5 Pat Dry With Fluffy Dry TowelWigs And Hair Extensions Care Step By Step Professional Secrets

Put a fluffy dry towel on top of a table and then place your wet wig inside of that fluffy dry towel. Then simply pat the wig with the other half of the fluffy towel so the excess water from the wig has gone into your fluffy towel.

Quick wig tip: The fluffier the towel the easier it is to dry the wig. The thinner the towel the longer and more difficult it will take to soak up excess water from your wig.

Step 6 Use Detangler SprayWigs / Hair Extensions Care Step By Step Professional Secrets

While the human hair wig is still damp you could spray a detangler onto the wig evenly all over the hair.

Please make sure you don't skip any areas of the wig when doing this step, to ensure the entire wig is well conditioned after washing.

Step 7 Air DryWigs / Hair Extensions Care Step By Step Professional Secrets

Next step is to wait for the wig to completely air dry. Air dry means to let it dry naturally inside your home.

I wouldn't suggest to place your wig in the sun because this may cause your wig's color to slightly fade over time and the netting to age and get breakage fast.

It's also best not to use a blow dryer because this will cause frizz and heat damage which causes split ends and dryness on your pretty wig and we don't want that now do we.

Make sure your wig is completely dry over night or leave the wig out all day in the warmest room of your home.

So please make sure to allow some time in advance to schedule this washing wig care before attending any event you have planned.

Step 8 Use Wide Tooth CombWigs And Hair Extensions Care Step By Step Professional Secrets

Once your wig is dry, use a wide tooth comb to take out any tangles using small sections, such as 3 to 5 inch sections of hair like you would with an alopecia wig. Start combing from the bottom of each section of hair working your way up towards the scalp or crown area. Make sure to comb gently and slowly without yanking the hair.

If there are any fussy knots you can undo them with your hands gently.

Step 9 StoreWigs And Hair Extensions Care Step By Step Professional Secrets

To store your wig safely place your wig on a mannequin head  to help keep it's beautiful shape and style. Apply a loose hair net over entire wig. Lastly apply a clear plastic bag securely over the entire wig as well. Using a hair net will help keep the hair style in place. Using a clear plastic bag of some sort will help to identify your wig easily and help keep it dust free when you are not using it.

Quick wig tip: Store your pretty wigs out of direct sunlight in order to avoid any color fading of your human hair wigs.

Part two: How To Care For Your Afro Hair Extensions

Afro hair extensions are great to wear because of their natural looking beautiful texture!

What better time to showcase kinky, curly, afro hair than now.

Getting afro hair extensions are a great way to create thicker looking hair and hairstyles and helps hide thinning hair loss while it grows out.

Natural hair has always been in style but it is so great that it is trending even more today than it was twenty years ago! I am so happy textured styles are back in style, aren't you?

When choosing afro hair extensions, you just can’t go wrong with a kinky curly hair weave. The hair style will naturally blend in with the natural texture of your hair effortlessly.

They also work great when using a protective hairstyle to maintain a heat less hairstyle. Afro kinky curly hair extensions are great for any age women!

Maintaining a kinky curly hair style when using your hair extensions is extremely important when you want to keep your hair style looking beautiful for a longer period of time, easily.

If your hair weave is losing it's curl pattern, I have a few hair afro hair extension tips that you could do at home to help maintain it's style for longer. Here are some easy step by step tips to maintain your weave and bring it back to beautiful life!

How To Detangle Afro Hair Extensions

Make sure to gently detangle your hair extensions on dry hair using a wide tooth comb section by section.

If you brush your hair extensions when hair is wet that can cause the hair to stretch snap and break. So please make sure hair is dry.

People might say to never brush the hair while it's dry, but the hair is known to stretch up to 40% when the hair is wet which can alter the hair's shape when it dries.

As long as you take a small section at a time, it will come out beautiful, just be gentle. :)

Starting from the bottom of each section working your way up to the roots of each section of hair.

How To Sleep In Afro Hair Extensions

This helpful video shows you how to sleep at night to help preserve your pretty curls!

What you do is :

Step 1) Wrap a long scarf around the base of your head to bring the curls high up to the top of your head in order to avoid smashing and preserving your curly afro hair extensions.

Please note: Do NOT tie the scarf too tight because this can disturb the blood circulation to the hair and cause hair loss thinning. So please tie the scarf loose, yet slightly snug, is best!

Step 2) (Optional) place a shower cap over your head to cover curls completely.  and that's basically it!  Enjoy your new hair sleep routine in order to wake up with beautiful afro curls daily!

How To Style Afro Hair Extensions

Kinky, curly afro hair is so easy to style due to it's natural curl pattern already in place.

The best tips and advice to avoid to help keep hair damage from happening to your hair extensions is to avoid using heavy damaging hair products and heat tools.

Avoid using products such as hair sprays and other products with the ingredient alcohol which can be extremely damaging to the extensions as well as your own hair.

Even some products that are said to help moisturize your hair could have alcohol in it which then becomes a vicious cycle to keep using the product.

It's best to use moisturizing hair products for your pretty afro hair.

Also try not to wash hair every day because doing so can cause dry hair which can lead to unhealthy hair breakage.

Use a spray bottle to spray hair using a recipe of 50% water and  50% light leave in conditioner when styling the hair extensions.

Make sure to use a good deep conditioner once a week for the best results possible to get beautiful Afro curly hair!

Can Wigs And Hair Extensions Be of Good Quality And Natural Looking?

The quality of the wig and hair extensions can be of great quality and look 100 % real and natural. Now days there is a wig for every budget but usually the best quality wigs and hair extensions are going to cost a bit more than the lower quality ones because of materials used and how it is made.

Types Of Wigs And Hair Extensions For Every Budget

The prices of wigs / hair extensions really depends on the quality and kind of hair used in the making of the product. Please remember that not every wig and hair extension will last forever. Even the very best natural looking ones need to be replaced as need be depending on how often the wigs / hair extensions are used.

Machine Manufactured Wigs And Hair Extensions

The price point on these type of wigs / hair extensions are normally used for Halloween costume parties instead of a hair replacement system. Strands of hair are sewn into a net base singularly or in groups of hair. This type of wigs and hair extensions may look nice and normal but if the wind blows the hair slightly the wrong way the netting underneath might be shown.

Synthetic Wigs And Hair Extensions

These types of wigs / hair extensions may be your cheapest option because you could get one for as cheap as 50.00. These type of wigs and hair extensions are actually the easiest to take care of because the color and shape tend to last longer than other ones out there.

Wigs And Hair Extensions of Mixed Hair Materials

These type of wigs / hair extensions often have both human hair and synthetic hair in order for these ones to be 50% better quality than the synthetic only wigs / hair extensions.

The main downside or con for these type of wigs / hair extensions is that synthetic hair and human hair need to be cared for in two entirely different types of ways. For instance you can use heat tools such as a curling iron on human hair wigs but not on some synthetic hair wigs, making it difficult to give a mixed material wig proper care for more that one use.

Handmade Wigs / Hair Extensions

These type of wigs / hair extensions are more expensive yet way more natural looking as well. The hair is sewn on individually instead of in clumps giving you a realistic, better quality, natural looking and much more stylish.

Human Hair Wigs And Hair Extensions

These type of wigs / hair extensions tend to be the highest quality and the most natural looking wigs and hair extensions out there because they are made of human hair. These type of wigs and hair extensions usually start at around $1,000.00 and up.
